The Nokia Lumia 800 has been available for a short while now. Microsoft and Nokia, two companies that once dominated their industry, have joined forces in an attempt to take their lost shareback. How is their latest effort as a team?

Nokia have come up with an absolutely fantastic bit of hardware. The Lumia 800 is available in a good choice of colours. Ergonomically, it sits in the hand well, feel sturdy and solid, and is a quality phone. Underneath, the hardware is as good as other leading competitors, offering an 8 megapixel camera, a 1.4Ghz processor, and 16GB of internal memory.

Microsoft who has been creating software for smartphones for a number years (think back to the Windows Pocket PC days, 10+ years ago now) have finally produced something worth shouting about. They offer a very usable interface that works well and is very stable and quick. Is the way forward Android? Maybe this isn’t the case anymore!

With years of experience in their respective fields, we believe Nokia and Microsoft have a real winner here. The handset is different to what we’re all normally used to (Android, Apple, BlackBerry etc), but who said changes are bad? Forecasts indicate that Windows OS is set to become the #2 operating system used on mobile phones by 2015. With Windows Phone 8 due within the next year, the Lumia 800 is just the start of something that is likely to be very big. Is the Lumia 800 worth having now? Definitely. What will you miss from your current phone? Not a lot probably, Windows Phone really has come a long way!
